Sometimes beauty doesn’t have to be superficial, That’s what we found when we visited Emilys in Formby. A very instagrammable and striking restaurant in the heart of Formby, a beautiful beach town in Sefton, Merseyside. But would the breakfast live up to the hype?

We visit Formby beach a lot as a family but have only recently discovered the town centre, which is only a 5 minute drive or 30 minute walk away from Lifeboat Road and Victoria Rd carparks.
I started hearing about Emily’s last year, when my eldest daughter started visiting with her friends – often just for their beautiful cocktails.

You can’t fail to to marvel at how beautiful Emily’s is as you approach the building. An old bank in Formby high street – Described as a ‘botanical hideaway’, the floral displays are just wonderful. I also recommend visiting in December when these displays turn into a stunning Christmas theme.

The Emily’s Breakfast and Brunch Menu
The Breakfast and Brunch menu has a great range of options of cooked breakfasts and Egg Benedict options. I really liked that you can add individual breakfast items onto your dish too.
A number of plant based and vegetarian options are available on the brunch menu too.

We opted for cooked breakfasts choosing the:
Moroccan Eggs and Mushrooms – Sautéed wild mushrooms in garlic butter on thick toasted bloomer with hummus, dukkah, poached eggs and herb dressing. (£12.50)
Smashed Avo on Toast – Smashed avocado, sourdough, tomato & herb salsa, crumbled feta, radishes, mixed seeds and verde dressing & poached eggs. (£13.95)
Emily’s Steak and Eggs – 6oz rump steak with potato hash, Chimichurri dressing, Tajin seasoning & eggs your way. (£15.00)

All of the dishes were really tasty. Plenty of herbs and seasoning on them all.
At first glance, the Steak and Eggs seemed rather a small portion but it was just enough. The Moroccan Eggs was a more generous portion and the addition of Dukkah seasoning went perfectly.
For drinks, we went for Pots of Tea (good generous sized pot!), iced coffee and tap water. It was a Monday Morning so sadly a little early to try out the Mimosa or Breakfast Margarita!
Prices are around average for this type of special breakfast – This is not your average greasy spoon and great care has been taken on compilation of dishes, presentation and taste.

Inside Emily’s Formby
The decor in Emily’s is just as lovely as the outside. They do soft furnishings so well – their cushion game is strong!
A lovely addition is the Emily’s charity wishing well, the world’s first contactless wishing well where you can donate to the monthly charity of choice by a card reader.

Emily’s Customer Service
This was spot on! The staff were genuinely warm and friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. We sat in the conservatory area which was warm when we first arrived. The waiting staff kept coming to check on us to make sure that we weren’t too hot or cold, topping up our drinks and checking that we were happy with our food. (We have since been back to Emily’s for their first class Sunday Dinner and found the customer service to be exactly the same which was impressive during a busy dinner service).
Emily’s restrooms
Even the toilets are beautiful – A black and white chequered floor with mirrored wall tiles and spotlessly clean. Make sure you pay a visit. They are upstairs though so the accessible toilet may be slightly different.

Opening Hours and Parking
Breakfast is served 7 days per week from 9am. Limited menu available on a Sunday.
Parking is available at an open air, pay and display car park behind the shops to the right of Emily’s. Just a couple of minute’s walk to Emily’s when you cut through. A number of parking spaces are also available right opposite Emily’s.

We are really looking forward to visiting Emily’s sister restaurant, Penelope’s which has recently opened in Birkdale, Southport. This looks just as beautiful!
